Ingredients

- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 large eggs
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing warm water with sugar and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Combine softened butter and eggs with the yeast mixture, then pour into the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
- Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Punch down the dough, divide into equal pieces, shape into balls, and place on parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Cover shaped buns and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C), brush buns with an egg wash, and bake for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- For a softer bun, try adding an extra tablespoon of butter.
- Using bread flour instead of all-purpose flour can give a chewier texture.
